Common Core Standards

Posted by Matt on Thu, Aug 19 2010

If your school doesn't use the Common Core Standards, we also support custom standards.  You can read about how to include those here.

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort to establish a shared set of clear educational standards for English language arts and mathematics that states can voluntarily adopt.  Over 25 states have adopted the standards so far.  For more information visit www.corestandards.org.

PlanbookEdu is one of the first sites to incorporate the Common Core Standards into its software.  To use the standards in your planbook is very easy.

Enabling The Standards For Your Planbook

Since not all teachers use these standards you must first you must enable the standards for your planbook.  You can do this for a new planbook or an existing one.  Go to "Planbooks" in the main navigation.  Then either "Create New" or "edit" your existing planbooks.  One of the options will be a checkbox to enable the standards.

Adding Standards To Your Plans

Once you have turned on Common Core Standards for your planbook you will see a search box when you edit a period.  Start typing any part of the standard into the box and a list of matching standards will appear.

Select the standard you would like and it will be added to the period.  To remove a standard simply click the "x" icon next to it.

Once you save your entry the standards will appear in a box on the top of the period.  You can mouse over the standard code to get the full description.

We hope you find this feature useful.  Any feedback or comments can be sent to support@planbookedu.com.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! The standards option is a fantastic feature! PlanbookEdu keeps improving! I love it, and so do my teacher friends.

Suggestion: Could you please put a link at the bottom of each page that reads "NEXT WEEK". I know it sounds crazy but it would be great if I didn't have to scoll up to the top each time in order to go to the next week. Thank you again!

Is there anyway to access state standards that have been adopted for other subjects such as Social Studies? I would like to post those standards in my daily lesson plans and it is a pain to do a cut & paste everyday.
Matt said on Aug 30, 2010
@Alycia Thank you for the suggestion. We will take it into consideration.

@Claudia Key Let us know which state you need. We are going to try to add individual states on a case by case basis.

I'd love to see the Illinois state standards! I've recruited quite a few teachers to site so far and we'd love that!

I agree. I do not have the paid version of Planbook, but if you included the Illinois standards I might consider getting it.

Please add Virginia, too! I really like the improvements you've made to the Planbook--it is so much easier to use. I frequently edit--don't we all-- and the quick edit is a timesaver. Thanks!

Can you add the California state standards?

Can you add the Washington state standards?

Also, when I go to print a hard copy of my lessons, can you add a feature so that the title of the class is posted next to the date. (ie. 7th Grade English)? I love this planbook, but would like the title of my planbooks to be at the top and also, I'd like to use our own state's standards. Thanks!

I was wondering if you could specify which Core Standards to a specific grade book, i.e. I teach 5th grade and would to just see 5th core standards listed in the drop down menu? Thanks!

P.S. I love Planbook.edu!
Mr. Broaddus said on Oct 26, 2010
I agree with the above, and it would also be helpful if you could specify content areas for those of us who teach one discipline rather than all in a grade range. (For example, I'd like to limit the standards to 9-10/11-12, English language arts.)

Can you please add NC state standards. It will be about two or three years here before the Core Standards are adapted. Many school systems require standards to be written on the lesson plans. Thank you! I am new to the program and considering switching from another online lesson planning website. I like what I see thus far. Keep improving it!

I would love to find a site that could combine state grade level standards with Special Ed individual educational goals together! I need to have both! Plus social/behavioral goals. Life skills too. Teaching is getting so complicated, so time consuming, we need more! As a spec Ed teacher, I need so much more! Please help!

Would it be possible to add Arkansas state standards, including grades 3-12, library media, GATE, music, PE and art? Our K-2 teachers are moving to the Core Standards in the fall of 2011
Karen said on Apr 15, 2011
I'm new to the site. I see that lots of teachers want their state standards in here, as do I. Are you going to add them? Teachers are anxiously awaiting a site that allows us to easily access state standards.

LOVE THIS! Wish I had found it sooner. I plan (haha) to use it for the remaining few weeks of this year. We all have to present a best practice at our back to school meetings...and I plan to present this to my colleagues. They will love it.

BTW: can you add Ohio - math and world language standards?

Thanks!

Please add Arizona ELP Standards.
Renee Borglum said on Jun 02, 2011
Rather than you putting in each state standards, it should just be easier to organize and share standards. For instance, there are eight benchmarks under the life science standard. When adding standards I should be able to pick life science and select from there. When I share standards I should be able to select a state so that others could easily see what standards are already created.

Is there a drop down menu for the standards or do we HAVE to type in a key word to access the core standards?
Kristen said on Jul 28, 2011
Do you have North Carolina standards for the fourth grade?
Katie said on Jul 30, 2011
Florida standards would be fantastic! We just adopted a new set of standards for most of our subject areas, and they are quite complicated to find/put into lesson plans... I am a special ed teacher who has grades 9-12 all subject areas (so I could potentially be teaching 20+ subject areas a day!) and lesson planning takes SO LONG... but the hardest part is finding the standards to include! I am considering buying the premium membership because this seems so easy and user friendly- please add Florida's Sunshine State Standards to help us teachers out! Thank you!!

I've add in my State Standards for Technology in Massachusetts 2-5 but can't click on the red x to check off that I've taught them. Can the rest of the Massachusetts Standards also be put in like Social Studies, Art, Science etc?
Love this site and will sharing it with the rest of our staff!!

Will you be adding Maryland state standards? I would love the science, health, and social studies standards for 3rd grade. THanks. I would consider paying if I could get the standards without having to copy and pasting them.
Kristin said on Nov 22, 2011
I would love to see the Maryland State Curriculum in here for the High Schools! The Common Core is great if you are aligning already this year, but states like Maryland are slowly switching over, and content areas like science and social studies are not included in this for the 2011-2012 school year!
Kristina said on Dec 09, 2011
How about an app so I can look at it on my phone also?

Can you please add the Middle School(6-8 grade)Florida Common Core Standards for science, history, geography, band, art, and PE. More of my teachers would love to use this web sight if their Common Core Standards were added.
Melanie said on Jan 29, 2012
All of the Dodea standards are posted except first grade. Is there a reason for this? Also, when I click on the red "x", it does not disappear to show I have taught that standard.
